To the Editor:
I attended one of the public town hall meetings being held by Wabasha County commissioners a couple weeks ago. This was time well spent.
They’re trying to work with the taxpayers to avoid raising taxes. There are lots of rumors, but people should go to these meetings to learn the facts.
I think the county could save money by looking at how the work is done and do things in a more efficient way; it shouldn’t be just about cutting staff.
For example, I worked in the highway department 28 years, and I think we could save money by organizing the work better so workers aren’t doing so much traveling back and forth between jobs.
Workers spend a lot of time doing paperwork. Could that be done in a more efficient way?
I think figuring out how to work smarter could save a lot of money.
My vote in November is going to Merl Norman. He is a good steward of the taxpayers’ money. He works for the taxpayer, trying to spend money in the best way. He’s honest and makes logical decisions.
Don Springer was a spender when he was in; that’s not what this county needs. We need to keep Norman in office and keep our taxes down.
