Eating for a Healthy Heart

Eating for a Healthy Heart class at 2 p.m. Tuesday Sept. 25 will teach you about lowering sodium and fat in your diet. Instructor Ruthanne Koski will make salt-free seasoning blends and prepare a low-fat recipe. Cost $5 members, $7 nonmembers.

Tai Chi for Arthritis – Part 1

Instructor Patti Svein, physical therapist with Mayo Clinic Health System in Red Wing, will teach classes at 9 a.m. every Thursday beginning Sept. 27. Tai Chi for Arthritis explores an ancient practice proven to reduce pain and improve mental and physical well-being.

The gentle routines are safe, easy to learn and suitable for every fitness level, she said. Space is limited. Call the Senior Center to sign up today. Cost: $40 for eight sessions.

Red Wing Train Club

Visit the Gandy Dancers any Wednesday from 1 to 4 p.m. You will see two layouts: "O" gauge and "HO" gauge. Train enthusiasts of every age are invited.

Silver Tones

The Red Wing Senior Center Choir, the Silver Tones, practices at 1 p.m. every Tuesday at First Lutheran Church, 615 W. Fifth St., under director Coleen Fowler and accompanist Cheryl Hemphil. If you like singing harmony, join in.

Typing service available

Do you need something typed? A letter? Family story? Experienced typists are willing to volunteer their services, if you give a donation to the Senior Center for the finished work. Simply bring in your hand-written correspondence. In a few days you can pick your typed work.

Trips, Travel and Tours – fall trip

Enjoy a trip down along the Mississippi River to view beautiful fall colors, leaving 8 a.m. Tuesday Oct. 9. The first stop will be in Pepin for a cinnamon roll and cup of coffee at the Two Old Guys. Next, a stop in Cochrane to see the Prairie Moon Sculpture Garden & Museum created by farmer, fiddler and artist Herman Rusch. After that the group will head to Slippery’s in Wabasha for lunch. The last stop will be at an apple orchard.

Cost is $39 for members, $44 for nonmembers and includes transportation, lunch and morning coffee. Sign up by Tuesday Oct. 2.

Games to play

The following games will be played: Duplicate Bridge – 12:15 p.m. Thursday Sept. 20; 500 – 1 p.m. Monday Sept 24; Scrabble - 1 p.m. Wednesdays; Fun Bridge – 10 a.m. Wednesdays.

Support services offered

Several support groups and services are available.

• Resources and Referrals will meet from 1-3 p.m. Wednesday Sept. 27. Jane Whiteside, Ph.D., can help you sort through problems and explore possible resources. This is a free and confidential service.

• Foot care clinic will be available Thursdays from 1 to 3:30 p.m. with a home health nurse. To schedule an appointment, call Fairview Red Wing Homecare and Hospice at 651-385-3410. The cost is $32.

Medical equipment available

Gently used medical equipment is available at the Senior Center to use for up to three months during a period of medical convalescence or short-term disability.

Items include wheelchairs, walkers, crutches, shower chairs, commodes and more. If you need something, visit or call the center. A $20 donation is requested to help with the ongoing program costs.
