10 days out for Sept. 19-30, 2012

Spotlight: The National Eagle Center invites you to celebrate its five-year anniversary. Though the story of the center goes back much further, 2007 marked a new beginning. There was a grand opening of the interpretive center Sept. 29, 2007, to mark move to the current landmark facility on the banks of the Mississippi River. It meant a huge expansion in visitors and program.

This year also marks five years since the removal of the bald eagle from the federal endangered species list. Five years is also the time it takes for a bald eagle to reach adulthood and get its white head and tail.

The center, which now has five eagle ambassadors, will celebrate all these milestones Sept. 29-30. The weekend will feature many events and demonstrations including special guest programs with S.O.A.R. South with flying birds of prey; Native American hoop dancer Kevin Locke; artists, photographers and exhibitors; chainsaw artist Curtis Ingvoldstad; a bell of honor; and a live eagle program.
