The offense broke out for Red Wing Saturday as the Wingers went 2-0 to win the Lake City Invite.
Red Wing defeated Stewartville 5-1 and then won 2-1 against Byron.
“A bunch of different guys stepped up,” Red Wing head coach Brian Quigley said.
Sophomore Dylan Goggin showed up in a big way for the Wingers (4-2-1, 0-0-1 Missota), scoring three goals in the two games. Keepers Andy Tarr and Preston Blaney also provided 31 saves in the two games to help Red Wing to victory.
The Wingers put 16 shots on goal against Stewartville and got two goals from Goggin, one from senior Alex Rezanzoff, one from senior Tawon Howard and another from sophomore Adam DeFore.
Against Byron, Blaney put up his best performances in net, making 19 saves and Red Wing scored late in the second half to win.
“And they were good saves,” Quigley said of Blaney. “It was ridiculous. He played out of his mind.”
Byron scored first on a penalty kick in the opening half but Goggin responded with his third goal of the day eight minutes into the half to tie it up. Rezanzoff knocked in the game-winner for the Wingers with 13 seconds remaining in regulation.
Red Wing faces Farmington Tuesday in Farmington.
