Cross-Country: Lake City boys finish 8th; girls take 4th

Running on a hot and windy Tuesday, Lake City’s Carston Dammann still tied a personal record at a meet in Dover-Eyota.

Dammann finished second overall in 16 minutes, 47 seconds.

“I thought he’d be hurting a little bit today but he looked sharp,” Lake City head coach Howard Cook said of Dammann’s performance in the hot weather. "His confidence has grown and he’s a very bright young man. He did what he needed to this summer.”

The Tigers came in eighth place out of 11 teams.

Sophomore Colin Fritz ran the race in 20:16 for 34th place, ninth-grader Risdon Kaartinen ended in 50th place in 21:09 and senior Nick Tynjala was 64th in 21:36. Ninth-grader Jeremy Keller finished in 82nd place to round of Lake City’s runners.

Plainview-Elgin-Millville won the meet with 36 points, St. Charles took second with 58 points and Dover-Eyota had 98 points for third place.

The Tigers host the Lake City Invitational next Tuesday.

Lake City girls take fourth

Lake City continued its consistent performances Tuesday at Dover-Eyota, finishing fourth out of 11 teams.

Dover-Eyota won its meet with 45 points, Chatfield came in second with 71 points and Plainview-Elgin-Millville was third with 82 points. The Tigers had 84.

Junior Samantha Keller was the first to finish for Lake City, running the race in 17 minutes, 54 seconds for 11th place. Sophomore Lydia Taylor got 15th in 18:13, ninth-grader Morgan Dammann came in 18th in 18:33, sophomore Rebecca Goertzen was 20th in 18:34 and sophomore Hannah Alitz finished in 19:06 for 24th place.

“We’re coming along but actually we were running in front of Chatfield and Plainview until the last 1,00 meters and we let the heat and wind get to us,” Lake City head coach Howard Cook said.
