With wins over Blooming Prairie and Lyle/Pacelli, the Goodhue volleyball team went 2-2 at the Hayfield Invitational on Saturday, finishing the tournament in second place.

In the opening round against Albert Lea, the Wildcats started off with a 25-22 Set 1 victory. But the Tigers regrouped and won the next two sets 25-23, 15-12 to take the game.

In the next round against Blooming Prairie, Goodhue swept the Awesome Blossoms 25-13, 25-21. The Wildcats’ hot play continued against Lyle/Pacelli, winning 25-13, 25-12.

Playing their way into the tournament finals, Goodhue ultimately fell short to the host Vikings, 25-16, 25-14.

“Finishing in second, we were pretty happy with that,” said Wildcats head coach Andy Kimball. “We were a little short-handed with our outside hitter, Mikayla Miller, out with a knee injury. Hopefully we’ll get her back in the next week or two.”

Meredith Watson led Goodhue's attack with 16 kills, while Laurie Pearson had 10 and Mikayla Tipcke finished with nine. Emilee Roschen completed a solid night at the service line with four aces.

The Wildcats are back in Hiawatha Valley League play Tuesday at home against Rochester Lourdes.
