Red Wing Area Seniors
The Red Wing Senior Center is located in the Professional Building and Community Center, 1407 W. Fourth St. All events listed are held at the Senior Center unless otherwise noted. Phone number is 651-267-3599.
Book Club for Women
The group will meet at 10:30 a.m. Friday Sept. 7 and discuss “Canada” by Richard Ford with facilitator Jane Whiteside.
Senior dance
All ladies and gentlemen are welcome to dance to live music from 6 to 9:30 p.m. Sunday Sept. 9 at the Red Wing Elks Club. Cost $7.
Free cellphones
Free wireless phones will be distributed from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. Monday Sept. 10 to income-eligible individuals. Bring a government-issued picture identification card showing your current Minnesota address and proof of low-income assistance program.
Understanding medical bills
Figuring out medical bills can be complex. Learn how to manage them at 1 p.m. Monday Sept. 10 from Cathy Gould. She has a degree in healthcare management and years of experience in medical billing. There will also be time for questions.
Men’s coffee group
Join in for morning coffee served up with interesting conversation and friendship every Tuesday at 10 a.m. starting Sept. 11. All are welcome, bring a friend. If you need a ride, call Faith in Action at 651-385-3290.
Laurel and Hardy
Presenter William Hoyt will show the movie “A Chump at Oxford” Tuesday Sept. 11 at 1 p.m.
Cards & Games
The following games will be played: Duplicate Bridge – 12:15 p.m. Thursday Sept. 6; 500 – 1 p.m. Monday Sept 10; Scrabble - 1 p.m. Wednesdays; Fun Bridge – 10 a.m. Wednesdays.
Support services offered
Several support groups and services are available.
•NAPS: Nutrition Assistance Program for Seniors will be available 11 a.m. to 12 p.m. Monday Sept. 10. Women and men 60 years of age or older who live in Minnesota and meet income guidelines may be eligible to receive a monthly food package. For more information, contact Channel One Food Bank. The toll-free number is 1-877-500-8699 ext. 104.
•Hearing screenings will be offered from 9 a.m. to noon Wednesday Sept. 12.
•Men Only Group will meet at 9 a.m. Thursday Sept. 13. The group is facilitated by Nick Even.
•Foot care clinic will be available Thursdays from 1 to 3:30 p.m. with a home health nurse. To schedule an appointment, call 651-385-3410. The cost is $32.
Medical equipment available
Gently used medical equipment is available at the Senior Center to use for up to three months during a period of medical convalescence or short-term disability.
Items include wheelchairs, walkers, crutches, shower chairs, commodes and more. If you need something, visit or call the center. A $20 donation is requested to help with the ongoing program costs.
