Red Wing narrowly defeated Lake City 2-1 Tuesday in Lake City.
The Wingers scored two minutes into the game and added another goal halfway through the first half on a volley past the Tigers’ goalkeeper.
Lake City junior Addie Steffen pulled the Tigers within a goal on a free kick with five minutes left in regulation and Lake City had a few more chances in the final minutes but couldn’t tie the game.
“I thought it was a well-played match by both teams,” Lake City head coach Mark Spence said. “They caught us a little flat in the first half but I thought we stepped it up in the second half and finished very strong.”
Sophomore Beth Peterson made 12 saves for the Tigers.
Lake City travels to face Winona Cotter Thursday and Red Wing hosts Rochester John Marshall Saturday.
