Senior Dillon Huemann rushed for 237 yards, scored four touchdowns, threw a two-point conversion and recovered a fumble to lead Goodhue past Pine Island 36-14 Friday night in a Hiawatha Valley League cross-division contest.

Senior teammate Kyle Drehmel rushed for 101 yards, scored a rushing touchdown and had two two-point conversions.

“Dillon had a huge night for us,” Goodhue coach Tony Poncelet said. “Our offensive line controlled the line of scrimmage, which really allowed him to do that. Dillon and Kyle provided a really nice 1-2 punch.”

Goodhue finished with 355 yards on the ground and 23 rushing first downs.

Sophomore quarterback Tyler Schumacher added 109 passing yards for the Wildcats. Schumacher went 9-for-14 with one interception.

Senior Tyson Dicke caught three of those passes for 38 yards, Zach Hinsch had three grabs for 36 yards and Huemann tallied three catches for 26 yards.

“The story of the game was really our defense,” Poncelet said. “Our defense had a great night.”

Hinsch and senior Alex Weckerling each had an interception for the Wildcats in addition to Huemann’s fumble recovery.

Goodhue held Pine Island to just 121 rushing yards and 52 passing yards.

The Panthers got two touchdowns in the third quarter – one each from Ryan McNallan (72-yard run) and Luke Schmidt (30 yard pass from Jared Lohmeyer).

Goodhue (1-0) resumes action next week with a home game against Cannon Falls.
