Cannon Falls player/manager Keith Meyers was dominant Sunday during the Bears’ first game of the Minnesota State Amateur Baseball Class C tournament, throwing a shutout and hitting a home run in a 4-0 victory against Maple Plain at Dick Putz Field in St. Cloud.

Meyers allowed just six hits and struck out nine to pick up the win.

“After the first time through the lineup, I think figured me out,” Meyers said. “Then, we started working backwards and that seemed to keep them off-balance. They stung the ball a couple times and I just had to make adjustments and it was mostly working ahead with the off-speed.”

He finished 1-for-3 with three RBI at the plate. He had an RBI ground out to second in the second inning to put Cannon Falls up 1-0 and added a two-run home run in the fifth inning for a 4-0 lead.

Nate Otto and Brandon Voth both went 2-for-4 with a run scored to lead the Bears. Rich Burr was also 2-for-4. Taylor Pagel was 1-for-3, Josh Harrison finished 1-for-2 with a run scored and Aaron Stein went 1-for-1.

Ryan Jakubov went 2-for-4 with a double to lead Maple Plain.

Cannon Falls plays Avon Saturday at Joe Faber Field in St. Cloud. The game begins at 11 a.m.
