Z-Theatre will present “Forever Plaid” as its first show in the Zumbrota Area Arts Council’s new home.
ZAAC purchased the historic State Theatre in Zumbrota earlier this year after a major fundraising effort. The performances are the weekends of Aug. 31 to Sept. 2 and Sept. 7 to 9.
“Forever Plaid” is a goofy musical revue written by Stuart Ross in 1990 featuring the style of the close-harmony "guy groups" (e.g. the Four Aces, the Four Freshmen) that reached the height of their popularity during the 1950s.
Personifying the clean-cut genre are the Plaids, a quartet of high school chums. Their dream of recording an album ends in a fatal collision with a bus full of Catholic school-girls en route to see the Beatles' American debut on “The Ed Sullivan Show.”
The play begins with the Plaids returning from the afterlife for one final chance at musical glory.
Cast members Luke Davidson, Aaron Schumacher, Rob Weber and Brian Adams sing in the closest of harmony, squabble boyishly over the smallest intonations and execute outlandish choreography with over-zealous precision. All four cast members have extensive stage credits. Davidson is from Wanamingo. Schumacher, Weber and Adams are all from Zumbrota.
“Forever Plaid,” is directed by Lori Rauen and JC Koepsell and is presented through special arrangement with Music Theatre International. Z-Theatre operates under the umbrella of the Zumbrota Area Arts Council. Fundraising efforts for the renovation of the building are ongoing.
