Letter: Wind tax credit promotes hoarding

To the Editor:
The recent Forum editorial favoring continuation of the production tax credit for wind energy is fundamentally incorrect and reflects ignorance of what is taking place in the global and U.S. economy (RE, Aug. 22). Underlying the failed premises is the assumption or belief that "resources" are renewable and ever-lasting - just like the growth they appear to create, and that the government controls this growth.
It also assumes that there is a correlation between economic growth and secure employment, which is also false. When economic growth is accompanied by mergers and acquisitions of businesses, jobs are always lost.
Furthermore, the corporate economy does not care whether consumers or workers are from China, Europe or India. These principles, combined with "high tech" and "low wages" guarantees a cost advantage to taking jobs overseas.
The PTC furthers the hoarding of wealth at the top, with very little long-lasting effects for this country or its citizens.
