Girls Tennis: Wingers win first dual match

Red Wing won its first dual match of the season 6-1 over North St. Paul Thursday in North St. Paul.

Red Wing won its first dual match of the season 6-1 over North St. Paul Thursday in North St. Paul.

Emily Otteson, Morley Struss and Kristen Anderson all won at singles for the Wingers and Red Wing swept the doubles side. Otteson won 6-1, 6-0 over Natalie Klasinski while Struss and Anderson won 6-0, 6-0.

Emily Stegora and Katie Kelly won 6-0, 6-2 at No. 1 doubles. Megan Clemmons and Lauren Brooks picked up a 6-0, 6-0 win at No. 2 doubles while McKenzie Muelken and Mati Bodensteiner won 6-0, 6-0 at No. 3 doubles.

Solveig Christenson played at No. 1 singles after playing at No. 2 singles at the Pine City Tournament Monday, but fell 6-1, 6-0 against Kyla Mittal.

Red Wing head coach Randy Decker said he plans to shuffle the lineup frequently this season.

“The fact that our girls can play multiple positions and our depth gives us a lot of options,” Decker said.

The Wingers will face Andover and Cretin-Derham Hall Saturday in Red Wing.
