Girls Tennis: Lake City wins season opener

Lake City opened the season Monday with a 7-0 victory over Faribault in Faribault.

Amy Orthaus, a state tournament participant last season, opened with a 6-0, 6-0 victory over Genesis Carreon at No. 1 singles while Hailey Webster won 6-1, 6-4 over Kayla Pfeffer at No. 2 singles, Erica Hubbard won 6-1, 6-0 at No. 3 singles and Juli Keller won 6-0, 6-0 at No. 4 singles over Samantha Johnson.

The Tigers made it a clean sweep in doubles with three straight set victories. Katie Wallerich and Allison Harvey won 6-3, 6-2 at No. 1 doubles against Maria Utpadel and Lauren Moll.

Braeden McElmury and Katie Coyle defeated Jaimie Schmidt and Emily Toering 6-2, 6-2 at No. 2 doubles and Emily Moechinig and Katie Henning beat Mikaela Isaacson and Jenny Kittleson 6-3, 6-1 at No. 3 doubles.
