Editorial: Woe, be gone
Minnesotans are smiling — but not too broadly. A Gallup poll says Minnesota will be the second best state in which to live 20 years from now — just behind Utah.

Of course, the people in the land of Lake Wobegon aren’t so certain. While their optimism about a place’s future ranks at No. 6, when asked about their personal future, optimism drops to No. 48. Minnesotans might quote radio host Garrison Keillor — where all the women are strong, all the men are good-looking, and all the children are above average — but surely it wouldn’t do to include yourself. Woebegone means beset with grief or wretchedness, you know.
What else did the survey find?
• Economic confidence: 1
• Safe places to exercise: 1
• Clean water: 2
• Dental visits: 5
• Learning opportunities: 6
All are good indicators we’re committed to a strong future. Woe be gone indeed.
