United Lutheran Church will hold worship services Sunday despite an early morning fire Saturday, Pastor Steve Timm said.
Red Wing Fire Department spent two hours fighting a fire that was reported at 3:30 a.m. They used foam to battle the blaze, which they contained to the church's exterior, Capt. Scott Will said.
The church's electrical system, however, sustained damage. Electrical crews worked on repairs most of the morning.
"We did get most of our issues resolved," Timm said Saturday afternoon. "We are 'on' for church tomorrow."
The cause is under investigation, Will said.
The night also saw extensive lightning, wind and rain throughout the region.
Power went out around midnight in Red Wing and was intermittent throughout the morning. Xcel Energy reproted 22 local outages affecting several thousand customers, but by 1:40 p.m. slightly under 200 were still without power.
