The Aces won again Friday against Elko, 3-2 in 11 innings, during the Section 1B playoffs in Elko.
Red Wing (23-15) scored all three runs with two outs and received impressive pitching performances to secure its fifth consecutive victory.
Zach Laffey went 4-for-5 with an RBI to lead the Aces, while four others contributed two hits. Chris Guetzlaff was 2-for-5 with an RBI, Steve Boldt went 2-for-6, Jimmy Bohmbach finished 2-for-6 with an RBI and Kyle Blahnik was 2-for-5.
Brady Schroeder provided another solid start for Red Wing despite walking four. He allowed two runs on just two hits and struck out three in five innings. Dustin LaRue came on in relief for three innings, giving up one hit and striking out three. Aaron Johnson finished the final three innings for the victory while punching out five.
The Aces scored first in the opening frame as Guetzlaff doubled with one out and was knocked in on a two-out single by Bohmbach. Red Wing added another run in the second inning thanks to two errors by Elko. Jake Laffey reached second on a two-base error by the right fielder and came around to score on an error by the first baseman. Elko finished with three errors.
Elko tallied just four hits in the game but made them count with two runs in the fourth inning to tie the game at 2-2.
The Aces finally broke through with the game-winning run in the top of the 11th inning when Bohmbach doubled with two outs and came around to score on a single by Zach Laffey.
Red Wing put runners in scoring position in nine of 11 innings but was able to overcome leaving 15 runners on base in the win.
The victory advances the Aces to the Class B Super Sectional, Aug. 17-19 in Red Wing.
