Red Wing unites as a community this weekend through River City Days. On Tuesday, things get more personal as the focus shifts to neighborhoods.

Night to Unite is designed to bring people out of their homes and into their front yards, nearby parks or school grounds so they get to know their neighbors better. These gatherings also promote strong police-community partnerships that enhance crime prevention.

The name of the event changed locally a few years ago, but whether you call it National Night Out or Night to Unite, the goal is the same — to create a safer, friendlier community one neighborhood at a time.

A listing of gatherings appears on page 3A. If your neighborhood isn’t among them, contact your immediate neighbors to roast s’mores or share a glass of lemonade. When you see another neighbor drive by, flag them down to join you.
