Book Club for Women

Book Club for Women will meet 10:30 a.m. Friday Aug. 3 and discuss “A Boy from C-11,” by Harvey Ronglien.

Laurel and Hardy

Presenter William Hoyt will show the movie “Flying Deuces” at 1 p.m. Tuesday Aug. 7.

Dance to Key Notes

All ladies and gentlemen welcome for an evening of dancing to the live music of the Key Notes from 6 to 9 p.m. Sunday Aug. 12 at the Red Wing Elks Club. Cost is $7.

Free cellphones available for qualifying seniors

Free wireless phones will be distributed at 10 a.m. Monday Aug. 13 for qualifying seniors. There are no contracts, activation fees or monthly charges, and users get up to 250 minutes of free airtime every month. Funding for the phone and service is provided by the Federal Communications Commission.

You must bring a government-issued picture showing your current Minnesota residential address, proof of low-income assistance program you are on and a document that shows your current address if your picture ID does not. Other terms and conditions apply.

Learn investment planning basics

Tom Wagner will discuss and answer questions regarding finances at 10 a.m. Tuesday Aug. 14. Topics include goals for investments and how income tax effects investments.

Stay socially active

The following games will be played: Duplicate Bridge – 12:15 p.m. Thursday Aug. 2; Euchre – 1 p.m. Monday Aug. 6; 500 – 1 p.m. Monday Aug. 13; Scrabble - 1 p.m. Wednesdays; Fun Bridge – 10 a.m. Wednesdays.

Support services offered

Several support groups and services are available.

• Hearing screenings will be available 9 a.m. to noon Wednesday Aug. 8. The free screenings are sponsored by Better Hearing Aid Centers.

• Men Only Group will meet at 9 a.m. Thursday Aug. 9.

• Nutrition Assistance Program for Seniors will be available 11 a.m. to noon Monday Aug. 13. Women and men 60 years of age or older, who live in Minnesota and meet income guidelines may be eligible to receive a monthly food package. Medical equipment available

Gently used medical equipment is available at the Senior Center to use for up to three months during a period of medical convalescence or short-term disability.

Items include wheelchairs, walkers, crutches, shower chairs, commodes and more. If you need something, visit or call the center. A $20 donation is requested to help with the ongoing program costs.
