Spotlight: Dreamland Faces

To cap off Stockholm's third Dog Days, Dreamland Faces will provide live accompaniment to two classic silent films about dogs — “A Dog's Life,” starring Charlie Chaplin, and “Teddy at the Throttle,” starring a very young Gloria Swanson — Saturday Aug. 4.

Classically trained musicians and composers, Karen Majewicz and Andy McCormick are the music duo Dreamland Faces. The two compose original scores for silent and sound films and provide live accompaniment on classical accordion, musical saw, piano, theater organ, percussion, and wind instruments.

McCormick plays a standard crosscut handsaw. He creates pitches by bending the saw into an S-shape and bowing the high point of the curve, and produces vibrato by wiggling his legs.

The two are back by popular demand at WideSpot. Organzers said parents should note that children attending last year got a huge kick out of these films and the music.

Tickets can be purchased on the WideSpot website: www.widespotperformingarts.org.
