UPDATE: 25-year-old dead after vehicle went into ditch

A traffic accident that occurred at about 6:30 a.m. Wednesday morning resulted in the death of a 25-year-old Kasson, Minn., man, the Goodhue County Sheriff's Office reported.

Ryan M. Learmont was driving eastbound on County Road 11 in Pine Island Township on his way to work in Mazeppa, Minn., when he fell asleep at the wheel, law enforcement officials said. His SUV crossed the center line and went into the ditch, striking two concrete culverts. Initial reports incorrectly said his vehicle was submerged in water in the ditch.

Officials pronounced Learmont dead at the scene. He was wearing his seat belt and alcohol was not a factor in the accident.

Mazeppa First Responders assisted at the scene.
