Amateur Baseball: Aces fall in section regular season finale

The Red Wing Aces closed out section play Sunday with a 12-7 loss to Dundas in Red Wing.

The Aces (18-15, 1-9 Section 1B) finished with just one win in the section and will face Miesville Sunday in Miesville to open the playoffs at 2 p.m. Miesville clinched the Classic Cannon Valley League title and wrapped up the No. 1 seed for the playoffs with a 3-2 victory over Hastings.

A five-run seventh inning proved the difference for Dundas. The Dukes trailed 6-5 heading into the seventh, but pushed five runs across to take a 10-6 lead. Dundas added two more runs in the ninth inning.

Red Wing, after playing four games last weekend and two this week, had few arms available for the game and had Tyler Goering start. Goering went six innings. allowed seven runs on six hits, walked four and struck out one.

Zach Laffey came on to relieve Goering but walked four hitters and allowed three runs on one hit. Andy Gibart, who threw Tuesday, came on to finish the game. Gibart threw three innings and allowed two runs on three hits and walked three.

Adam Thygesen went 2-for-4 with two RBI and a run scored. Chris Guetzlaff went 3-for-5 with a run and Steve Boldt finished 2-for-5 with three RBI and a run.

Boldt’s three-run homer in the sixth gave Red Wing a 6-5 lead that didn’t hold up. The Aces finished with 15 hits with Gibart and Zach Garner also driving in runs. Jimmy Bohmbach went 2-for-4 and Kyle Blahnik finished 2-for-5 with two runs.

Rich Bordas went 1-for-2 with two RBI and two runs scored for Dundas. Mike Ludwig, Steve Loos and Tyler Jones each had two hits as well.

Jeff Brisbois got the win for the Dukes after six innings of work. Brisbois allowed six runs, two earned, on 12 hits, walked one and struck out three.
