Miesville’s David Olson had the cycle wrapped up Friday night against Elko in Miesville.
Mudhens’ manager Matt Van Der Bosch said Olson hit a sure triple but wasn’t aware he needed it to hit for the cycle so instead he trotted into second base, finishing a ho-hum 5-for-5, including two home runs, two doubles and six RBI as Miesville defeated Elko 9-1.
“Pretty decent,” Van Der Bosch said. “He would have had (the triple) standing up.”
In addition to Olson, the Mudhens got contributions from Van Der Bosch, who went 2-for-3 with two runs scored, and Chuck Bruchu, who was 2-for-4 with two runs scored in the victory. Miesville had 13 hits.
Erik Olson started for Miesville, allowing one unearned run in seven innings in his first start back from his honeymoon. He gave up five hits and one walk while striking out three.
“Erik was pretty solid, he always is,” Van Der Bosch said. “Good to see him go out and throw strikes.”
The Mudhens host Hastings Sunday for a chance at the section title.
Mudhens fall at home
Miesville lost 5-2 against Northfield Tuesday at Jack Ruhr Field.
Northfield tallied 10 hits in the victory.
“We just weren’t really that sharp,” Van Der Bosch said.
David Olson was 1-for-3 with a solo home run.
