In response to Richard W. Johnson’s commentary (R-E, July 7 & 8), wow! Tea party are traitors? Guilty of treason?

Tea party members do more for our country than anybody. They are about freedom. They try to limit spending. Raising the debt limit is crazy. The United State debt is already at $15 trillion to $16 trillion.

That brings us to: How can we pay this back? The taxes collected can’t pay for the interest and the government programs. That’s not counting the principal.

What will Japan or China do if we can’t pay? What if they want our national parks? We are paying for China’s military buildup.

President Barack Obama wants to tax the rich. If we took all their money, it wouldn’t touch this huge debt. If he gets that money he will just spend more. When he was going to cut spending it was only a few million.

The rich already pay more than everyone else. A small percent of rich people pay more that 50 percent of all taxes collected. Soon we will have more “getting” from the government than who pay in. Why is it OK to take from someone and give it to someone else?

When they give people government jobs it does little to help the economy because they don’t produce a product. Government departments need to be eliminated. We will be like Greece soon. We have 14 percent government workers. They have 14.1 percent. Obama want more people on assistance so he has more votes. These two problems will bring down our country. When people are given everything, they have no incentive to work.

People seem to think the rich are the bad guys. We need the rich. They are the people who start corporations, companies, and small businesses. That’s where the jobs come from. When the government over taxes and regulates business, they don’t expand and hire new people. Right now businesses are scared about what in the world the government is going to do next.
