The Minnesota Department of Public Safety Division of Homeland Security will have a disaster recovery expert at the Cannon Falls City Council at 1:30 p.m. Tuesday to instruct counties on how to ask for public assistance funding.

The meeting will allow officials from Goodhue and Rice counties to learn how to handle crucial paperwork needed to receive public assistance funding from FEMA.

Goodhue and Rice counties are among 13 counties and three tribal nations included in a Federal Disaster Declaration from July 6. The declaration is for assistance that will provide federal funding for 75 percent of the cost to repair infrastructure, remove debris and reimburse emergency services following severe flooding in the area in June.
