Letter: Time inadequate to review report

The Goodhue County Mining Study Group has completed its work.

To the Editor:

The Goodhue County Mining Study Group has completed its work. Through this process many proposed changes have been made to the Mineral Extraction Ordinance.

As I write this letter it is four days before the Goodhue County Planning Advisory Commission holds a public hearing to accept comments on the various amendments. This seems reasonable until you realize that the final draft of the proposed changes is not yet available on the Goodhue County website. I am appalled that a matter of such grave consequence is scheduled for a hearing before the townships and citizens have had time to review the proposed changes.

What meaningful comments can be made on the proposed changes without adequate time to review them? I for one will be calling the Land-use Management Office requesting that the matter be postponed to allow adequate time for review.

I urge you to do the same. The number is 651-385-3104.

Or better yet, lodge your complaint in writing by sending an email to the land-use director at lisa.hanni@co.goodhue.mn.us and planning/zoning administrator at michael.wozniak@co.goodhue.mn.us.
