The Red Wing Police Department arrested a 23-year-old man early Friday morning when he fled on foot after leaving Bergen Dental, 315 East Ave., when the business alarm went off. Here’s what the police report said happened:
Police were dispatched to the dental office at 2:38 a.m. Friday because the alarm had gone off. Upon arrival they saw no forced entry, but noticed a man holding a duffle bag just left the building. Police directed him to stop.
The suspect, Jonathan Danielson, dropped the bag and took off running. Red Wing police’s K-9 and K-9 handler began chasing Danielson as he ran southbound in the alley between Jordan Towers II and United Methodist Church.
The K-9 eventually caught up to Danielson and bit his arm, but Danielson pushed him off and continued fleeing. Danielson climbed over a railing at Jordan Towers II and jumped into a lower area.
The K-9 officer deployed and discharged his Taser, but it was ineffective because of the distance. Danielson again took off running.
The K-9 and K-9 officer began tracking Danielson and eventually found him about half a block away in a stairwell. The dog bit Danielson’s leg and he was apprehended.
Danielson was brought to Goodhue County Jail and booked in on burglary, fleeing police on foot and resisting arrest charges.
