Emergency preparedness drill planned at nuclear plant
A full-scale emergency preparedness drill at the Prairie Island nuclear plant is planned for Tuesday July 10.
A full-scale emergency preparedness drill at the Prairie Island nuclear plant is planned for Tuesday July 10. The drill will consist of a scenario chosen at random and will test participants’ abilities to respond and protect area residents.
The exercise involves the states of Minnesota and Wisconsin, Xcel Energy, the U.S. Nuclear Regulatory Commission, the Federal Department of Homeland Security and Dakota, Goodhue and Pierce counties.
DHS will evaluate all components of the exercise. A public briefing open to the community on the results of the exercise is scheduled for 10 a.m. Friday July 13 in the Goodhue County Emergency Operations Center, 430 W. Sixth St.
