Letter: Red Wing Faith in Action going stronger than ever

To the Editor:
In regards to Tuesday’s Republican Eagle article on the closing of the Faith in Action Central Goodhue County program, I wish to assure the community that their closing in no way affects Faith In Action in Red Wing. This is clearly stated toward the end of the story, but some have mistakenly assumed that it was our program.
Every Minnesota Faith in Action program is entirely independent of the other.
Faith in Action in Red Wing has, in fact, had the busiest June in our 13 years of operation. Our volunteers provided 171 round trips (many programs would record the data as 342 trips) within Red Wing. Of these, 148 were health related and deeply impact the physical and mental health of our community.
In addition to our transportation assistance, our volunteers provide other valuable (though often not as visible) services to seniors, and others in distressed circumstances. These include friendly visiting, respite, deliver of books from the library to shut-ins, and our lone out-of-town transportation service - “Road to Recovery” for radiation treatments.
The Eagle story was well-written and accurate, and we only regret that everyone did not read it through to completion.
Faith in Action in Red Wing is not closing! We are now in our 14th year of services to our community, and we look forward to many more.
