Cannon Falls, Lake City split doubleheader

Lake City split a seven-inning doubleheader Sunday against Cannon Falls with a 1-0 win and a 3-2 loss in Cannon Falls.

Lake City split a seven-inning doubleheader Sunday against Cannon Falls with a 1-0 win and a 3-2 loss in Cannon Falls.

The Serpents got a two-hit shutout from Eric Sandstrom in the first game and pushed across the game-winning run in the sixth inning on a Matt Miller base hit to score Mitchell Anderson.

Sandstrom struck out five and walked four in seven innings while Lake City tallied just five hits off Bears starter Keith Meyers.

Meyers struck out seven and walked none in a complete game. Rich Burr and Josh Harrison had the two hits for Cannon Falls.

The Bears managed just four hits in the second game of the doubleheader but it was enough to win.

Cannon Falls scored two runs in the top of the sixth to rally from a 2-1 deficit and earn a split.

Lake City finished with 10 hits but only got runs in the first and third innings off Bears starter Aaron Stein.

Harrison got the win in relief, tossing four shutout innings. Harrison allowed three hits and one walk.

Taylor Pagel went 2-for-3 with an RBI and Burr finished 1-for-3 with a run and an RBI for Cannon Falls.

Brett Gwaltney went 2-for-3 while Matt Miller finished 2-for-3 with a double and RBI for the Serpents. Zach Wolfe went 2-for-4 as well for Lake City.

Gwaltney took the loss after six innings. Gwaltney gave up three runs on four hits, walked four and struck out four.
