Director of teaching and learning filled

The Red Wing School Board approved hiring Joe Jezierski to the director of teaching and learning position Wednesday evening.

Jezierski most recently served as a principal in Stewartville, Minn. He also has experience as an English teacher and administrator in Forest Lake, Minn.

“He is an outstanding candidate,” Supt. Karsten Anderson said. “We’re thrilled to get him.”

Jezierski will fill the position vacated by Kathy Radmer following her retirement.

The board approved a salary for Jezierski of $117,500 for a full year contract. But because Jezierski is unable to start in the district until Aug. 1, he will be paid $107,708 for fiscal year 2013, which starts July 1. Jezierski will also receive a car allowance of $350 per month. His employment is at-will.

In other news …

• The board approved transferring $158,196.19 from the district’s operating capital reserve account to the Community Education account. This money comes from the district’s sale of Bergwall Arena and pays off the debt the district owed to Community Education.

• A closed session in order to conduct a yearly superintendent evaluation was taken off the agenda due to scheduling conflicts.

Personnel changes

The board approved the following personnel changes:

New hires: Amy Rak, kindergarten teacher at Sunnyside, effective August 2012; Craig Borey, student services coordinator at Sunnyside, effective July 1.

Transfer: Kasi Nelson, second-grade teacher at Burnside, effective August 2012; Kristin Thum, FACS teacher at RWHS, effective August 2012.

Recall: Gaye Menke, .4 FTE district-wide physical therapist, effective August 2012; Karin Meyer, .5 FTE ECSE teacher at Colvill, effective July 1.

One year unpaid leave of absence: Jennifer Herdina, science teacher at RWHS, effective 2012-2013 school year.

Three-year unpaid leave of absence: Craig Borey, EBD teacher at RWHS, beginning 2012-2013 school year.

Resignation: Holly Tauer, SLD/EBD teacher at RWHS, effective August 16; Catherine Buss, special education assistant at Sunnyside, effective May 23.

Meeting watch
