Flash flood warning issued for Red Wing area
The National Weather Service has issued a flash flood warning for the Red Wing and Hastings area that remains in effect until 9:30 p.m. today.

The warning includes Goodhue, Dakota and Rice counties.
The Cannon River was rising quickly, authorities said this afternoon. That river and the Little Cannon River overflowed in Cannon Falls last week and were on the verge of doing so again.
Rain was falling at a rate of 1 to 2 inches by midafternoon.
Specific cities that could see flooding include Red Wing, Cannon Falls, Dennison, Stanton, Wastedo and Welch in Goodhue County. The weather service also said Miesville, Nerstrand, New Trier, Northfield and Randolph are at risk.
The Vermillion River is Hastings also is raging.
Streams, creeks and ditches can't keep up with the rain, meteorologists said. People should use extreme caution near water ways and on country roads.
