Amateur Baseball: Miesville falls to Mankato

Miesville went 1-1 in the Dewey Tauer Tournament Saturday after an 8-0 victory over Bay City in Miesville, but fell to the Mankato Twins 6-5 in the second game of the day.
Mankato advanced to the championship and was set to meet River Falls, which defeated Red Wing 4-1 in the other semifinal game, but the game got cancelled due to rain.
The Mudhens jumped out to a 3-0 lead in the bottom of the first inning and the Bombers never mounted a serious threat. Miesville added two runs in the fifth courtesy of RBI from Matt Van Der Bosch and Brad Beskau. The Mudhens tacked on three more runs in the seventh after Alex LaShomb drove in two runs with a double and Beskau added a sacrifice fly to score LaShomb.
Erik Olson threw a three-hit shutout and struck out 12 in the victory for Miesville. The Bombers had just two runners in scoring position for the game.
Tanner Eggenberger, Tim Eaton and Dustin Frandrup had the only hits for Bay City.
Anthony Schultz started for the Bombers and lasted 6 1/3 innings. Schultz allowed eight runs, five earned, on nine hits and struck out three.
Chuck Bruchu went 3-for-5 with three runs and a double. David Bruchu was 2-for-3 with three runs, a walk and a hit by pitch. LaShomb finished 2-for-2 with two doubles and was plunked twice.
Bay City fell 4-0 against Mankato Friday.
