Cannon Falls beat Austin 8-7 Friday in 10 innings in Miesville and Green Isle 3-2 Saturday in Red Wing to win its pool and advance to the knock out round.
The Bears fell in the semifinals 8-0 to the Mankato Twins to end their tournament run.
Cannon Falls came through with an 8-7 victory Friday with a two-run 10th inning against the Greyhounds.
The Bears held a 3-0 lead after the third inning but Austin tied it in the top of the fourth. Cannon Falls regained the lead in the bottom half of the inning until the Greyhounds came up with two runs in the sixth to make it a 5-4 game. Austin added a run in the eighth for a 6-4 lead until the Bears tied it with two runs in the bottom of the ninth.
Luke Winchell led Cannon Falls with a 3-for-6 night and drove in two runs. Ryan Brintnall went 2-for-5 with two RBI while Brandon Voth and Taylor Pagel added RBI. Pagel finished 2-for-4 and Nate Otto went 3-for-5 with three runs. Jamie Stay went 2-for-5 with a run.
Ethan Kuehn got the win in relief of Aaron Stein for the Bears. Kuehn threw 3 1/3 innings and allowed two runs on three hits. Kuehn walked four two and struck out two.
Cannon Falls jumped out to a 1-0 lead in the second inning but it didn’t stick Saturday against Green Isle.
The Irish rallied back for two runs in the fourth and added an insurance run in the seventh to hang on for a 3-2 victory.
Both teams finished with nine hits and Otto led the Bears with a 2-for-4 game and an RBI. Pagel went 2-for-4 and Nick Stark finished 1-for-3 with an RBI.
Billy Coakley threw six innings for Cannon Falls and allowed three runs on eight hits. Coakley walked three and struck out one.
