Cannon Falls ended its state tournament run Friday with a 6-1 loss in the Class 2A consolation championship to Delano at Joe Faber Field in St. Cloud.
The Bombers (21-7) reached the consolation championship after a 5-0 victory over Roseau to start the day.
Delano (20-8) struck first in the game and put two runs across in the second inning. The Tigers added four more in the fifth before Cannon Falls got going.
The Bombers scratched across a run in the top of the sixth inning on a Cedric Dicke RBI single to score Ian Althoff.
Cannon Falls finished with eight hits but left 13 runners on base. The Bombers loaded the bases in the second inning with one out but Delano got out of the jam with a strikeout and a ground out. Again, Cannon Falls loaded the bases in the fifth with two outs but couldn’t get a base hit.
The Bombers stranded two runners in the first, third and sixth innings as well.
Cannon Falls senior right fielder Braxton Lindow went 4-for-4 while Althoff finished 1-for-3 with a run. Dicke was 1-for-4 and Michael Growette was 1-for-4.
Dicke started for the Bombers and lasted 4 1/3 innings. Dicke gave up six runs, four earned, on six hits, walked three and struck out three.
Delano’s Toby Hanson and Christian Triplett each had two RBI while Dean Halonen added another.
Boyle-Hoban pitches gem to advance Cannon Falls
Tyler Boyle-Hoban threw a two-hit gem for the Bombers in a 5-0 victory over Roseau to open play on Friday in St. Cloud.
Boyle-Hoban walked one and struck out five in the complete-game win.
Trevor Sullivan drove in three runs while Althoff and Growette added RBI. Growette finished 2-for-2 and Dicke scored two runs.
Cannon Falls took a 1-0 lead in the third inning after Althoff hit an RBI sacrifice fly.
Growette scored Dicke in the fourth to make it a 2-0 game and the Bombers struck for three more runs in the fifth.
