Cannon Falls fell 7-5 Wednesday to the Metro Merchants in Cannon Falls in a 17-inning marathon at the Cannon Falls Invitational tournament.
The two teams combined for 29 hits, but it wasn’t until the 17th inning that the Merchants broke a 5-5 tie with two runs.
Cannon Falls led 5-4 heading into the eighth inning but the Merchants pushed across a run to tie the game and so began the epic extra-inning session.
Keith Meyers went 2-for-8 with a double while Luke Winchell drove in two runs and was 2-for-6 with a run. Taylor Page finished 2-for-6 with an RBI and Jamie Stay went 2-for-7. Zeke Williams scored a run and Nate Otto added an RBI.
Cory Hedeen started and lasted the first seven innings. Hedeen allowed four runs on seven hits and had three strikeouts. Meyers came on and pitched the next eight innings and struck out 11. Meyers gave up one run on six hits.
