Senior Tyler Boyle-Hoban stepped up in a big way for Cannon Falls in the Section 1AA finale Tuesday against Stewartville at Riverland Community College in Austin.

Boyle-Hoban threw a complete game and hit a home run as the Bombers defeated the 14th-ranked Tigers 7-3 to advance to the Class 2A state tournament.

Cannon Falls (20-5) scored at least a run in every inning from the second inning to the sixth inning and pounded out 12 hits to get the victory. Boyle-Hoban allowed seven hits and five walks but struck out three, including the final batter of the game.

“He just keeps getting better every outing,” Cannon Falls head coach Bucky Lindow said. “He did an awesome job.”

He also went 2-for-3 with a double and a home run. Junior Ian Althoff contributed three hits, senior Braxton Lindow tallied two hits, senior Michael Growette had two hits and junior Noah Callister supplied a double in the victory.

The Bombers made multiple big plays defensively, Bucky Lindow said, and kept Stewartville (18-6) scoreless until the sixth inning.

“We made some sparkling defensive plays that really kept them off the bases,” he said. “That was huge. That gave Tyler confidence.”

Cannon Falls will play second-ranked Holy Family Catholic High School June 14 during the first round of the Class 2A state baseball tournament at Dick Putz Field in St. Cloud.
