With one record under its belt the team of senior Tanner Kramp, senior Ethan Draz, junior Andre Page and senior Alex Harder added another Saturday at the Section 1AA meet at Lakeville South High School in Lakeville.
That team set the school record in the 4x100 relay earlier in the season at the Missota Conference meet, a record set in 1983. This time the group knocked off a dustier record in the 4x200. Kramp, Draz, Page and Harder ran the 4x200 in 1:32.06, nearly a full second better than its seed time and .18 seconds faster than the school record set in 1975.
“It was a fun year to coach,” Wingers head coach Adam Nelson said. “We had a lot of speed on our team. We'll miss the speed from our team.”
The 4x100 relay, which Nelson felt had an outside chance at making the state meet, finished sixth with a time of 44.9. The team held the lead until the last leg when Winona pulled away to win the event in 44.14.
Red Wing senior Christian Leitner reached the podium with a fifth-place finish in the 1,600. Leitner finished in 4:35.46 and placed in both distance events.
Page ran an 11.52 in the finals of the 100 to finish ninth in a close race. The differential between the winner, Owatonna’s Jonah Remeker, who won in 11.18, and Page was .34 seconds.
The 4x800 relay team of senior Trent VanLoon, sophomore Lucas Knowlton, sophomore Joe Partington and sophomore Aiden Winn took ninth with a time of 8:44.02.
Rochester Mayo won the meet with 128 points and Lakeville South finished second with 103 points. Red Wing scored 17 points to finish 13th in the 14-team field.
