Track: Tigers send 4x100 relay to state meet

The Lake City girls track and field team qualified two events Thursday at the Section 1A meet in Winona for the Class 1A state track and field tournament.

The Tigers’ boys track and field team were unable to advance an event.

Lake City sophomore Brandy White, senior Haley Vaith, sophomore Shannon Ting and junior Taylor Koller ran the 4x100-meter relay in 50.49 seconds for third place. The state qualifying time was 51.01. The Tigers just missed out on making state in the 4x200 and 4x400 relays, finishing both races in third place and close to the qualifying time.

Junior Kristine Novak won the pole vault at 10 feet, 2 inches to advance to state.

The state tournament will take place June 8-9 at Hamline University in St. Paul.

Z-M puts three into state meet

Zumbrota-Mazeppa track and field advanced four individuals to the Class 1A state track and field tournament Thursday at the Section 1A meet in Winona.

Ninth-grader Maddie Lindhart nearly qualified in the shot put and the discus throw, finishing third in both events for the Cougars. Her shot put was 32 feet, 11 1/2 inches and her discus throw was 100-4.

Z-M senior Nathan Warneke won both the 1,600-meter run and the 3,200 to advance in both events. His 1,600 time was 4 minutes, 30.52 seconds and he ran the 3,200 in 9:42.87.

Junior Lucas Ziemba qualified in the long jump, going 20-9 for second place and senior Sean Adams took second in the triple jump with a jump of 41-10 1/2.

Cannon Falls qualifies two for state

The Cannon Falls track and field team had two individuals qualify for the Class 1A state track and field tournament Thursday at the Section 1A meet in Winona.

Paul Hernke finished second to advance in the 400-meter dash in 50.94 seconds while Emi Trost took first in both the 1,600 and 3,200 runs. Trost ran the 1,600 in 4 minutes, 59.40 seconds and the 3,200 in 10:55.53.
