Boys Golf: Red Wing sits in 8th at sections

Red Wing sits in eighth place after the first round of the Section 1AAA tournament Thursday at Bellwood Oaks Golf Club in Hastings.

The Wingers shot a 328. Lakeville North is in first place with a 303 and Rochester Century tallied a 312 for second place. Owatonna is third at 316.

“We had some inconsistencies again,” Red Wing head coach Todd Petterson said. “We competed well but we had some troubles.”

Senior Matthew Petterson led the Wingers with an 80, shooting a 38 on the front nine and a 42 on the back nine.

“Matthew was playing quite well,” Todd Petterson said. “He finished with some tough breaks on some tough holes.”

Senior Tyler Grove shot an 82 for Red Wing while seniors Blake Westerberg and Jarrett Enevold both tallied 83s. Sophomore Zach Sachen and senior Ross Elford each had an 88.

“I think the guys felt like they left some strokes out there,” Todd Petterson said. “We had some good scores, we had some chances but things didn’t fall our way for a good chunk of it. We’re going to go out and try to compete and improve our places.”

The second round of the Section 1AAA tournament will take place Monday at Bellwood Oaks Golf Club.
