Gas leak closes part of Gernentz intersection Wednesday

A utility company accidentally cut a residential natural gas line, causing a gas leak that closed the intersection of Gernentz Lane and Gernentz Fork for about two hours Wednesday afternoon.

The Red Wing Fire Department was dispatched to the area at 3:38 p.m. The cut caused a “significant” natural gas leak, and several nearby houses were evacuated as a precaution.

Xcel Energy gas crews repaired the line.
