James Georgakas struck out 12 in a complete game for Ellsworth Wednesday as the Panthers defeated Altoona 4-0 at the Brown Field Complex in Hager City.
Georgakas hit one batter and allowed just five hits to pick up the victory. He threw 139 pitches.
Ellsworth managed only four hits but took advantage of four Altoona errors to score one run in the fourth inning and three runs in the fifth inning to advance to the next round of the playoffs.
Mitch Matter led the Panthers with two runs and Jake Betthauser provided two RBI. Brady Schroeder stole a base in the win.
Altoona stole six bases in the loss but couldn’t find a way to get a runner home against Georgakas.
Ellsworth will play West Salem Tuesday in the first round of sectionals.
