Baseball: Lake City advances in 1AA East subsection

Dylan Simonic went 2-for-4 and drove in three runs Tuesday to help lead third-seeded Lake City to an 8-5 victory over sixth-seeded Winona Cotter in its 1AA East subsection tournament opening game in Lake City.
Simonic connected for a two-run double in the sixth inning to help the Tigers (16-5) build an 8-3 lead. Cotter rallied for two runs in the top of the seventh before Lake City shut the door.
The Tigers move on to face second-seeded La Crescent Thursday in La Crescent.
Elliot Cox went 3-for-4 and drove in a run and John Brown finished 1-for-2 with a double for Lake City.
The Tigers trailed 3-1 heading into the bottom of the fifth inning when Brown led off with a double. Lake City went on score four runs in the inning to take a 5-3 lead.
Reid Lundell picked up the win after 5 2/3 innings of work. Lundell allowed three runs, one earned, on six hits, walked one and struck out one.
