Houston fended off Goodhue Friday for a 9-7 victory in the 1A East subsection playoffs in Houston.

The third-seeded Hurricanes (12-9) used a four-run fourth inning to hold off the sixth-seeded Wildcats despite a comeback effort in the fifth and seventh innings.

Goodhue (6-14) put runners on first and second with no outs in the seventh but after a strikeout Sharcee Hahn grounded into a game-ending double play.

Houston broke a 5-5 tie in the fourth inning with four runs, but the Wildcats came back to make it a two-run game when Hahn hit a two-run homer.

Goodhue, which opened the season with five consecutive losses, took a brief 5-4 lead after a five-run third inning.

“It wasn’t like anyone was really down,” Wildcats head coach Chris Irvin said. “I think the girls really saw they made a lot of strides.”

Hahn finished 1-for-3 with a run and two RBI. Brooke Bitzan went 1-for-3 with an RBI and a run and Paige Gadient finished 1-for-3 with a run and an RBI.

Emilee Roschen took the loss for Goodhue after throwing six innings. Roschen allowed nine runs on eight hits and struck out one.
