For the second time in just more than a week, Red Wing police were involved in a car chase through town that included a stolen vehicle.
At about 12:40 a.m. Friday, an officer noticed a 1995 Pontiac Grand Am coming out of an alley in the 400 block of Sixth Street. The officer thought the vehicle was suspicious and began following it.
A traffic stop was attempted when the vehicle began speeding, but the driver wouldn’t pull over. The pursuit began at Seventh and Potter streets and continued through downtown with speeds approaching 45 to 50 mph.
Police stopped pursuit after the Pontiac crossed the High Bridge and entered Wisconsin. Pierce County Sheriff’s deputies found the vehicle abandoned shortly after Red Wing police called off the chase.
Kristina Rodahl, 611 Hodgeman St., reported the vehicle stolen just before 7 a.m. Friday. She said the vehicle is worth about $1,500 and that there was about $425 in personnel belongings in the vehicle. Police are investigating the incident.
On May 17, Daniel Donno, 38, led police on a chase through Red Wing before stopping on the High Bridge and jumping off. He was arrested after being pulled from the Mississippi River. Donno was charged May 18 with theft of a motor vehicle and fleeing a peace officer in a motor vehicle.
