Canadian Pacific strike shouldn't be felt here

A strike by 4,800 members of a union in Canada halted Canadian Pacific’s trains in that country, but CP representatives said it has no effect on operations around Red Wing.

A strike by 4,800 members of a union in Canada halted Canadian Pacific’s trains in that country, but CP representatives said it has no effect on operations around Red Wing.

“There are impacts at the border for any shipments going in and out of Canada, but at this time there is no direct impact on Canadian Pacific’s U.S. operations,” CP’s Ed Greenberg said.

Greenberg said CP is negotiating with those on strike and hopes a settlement will be reached soon. “Certainly, though, if we’re unable to reach an agreement with the union … we are urging the federal government of Canada to take action,” Greenberg said.

The strike began immediately after midnight Wednesday May 23.
