A woman drove her vehicle into the Little Cannon River in Cannon Falls early Thursday evening, Cannon Falls Police reported.

Preliminary breath tests indicate that the driver, a 54-year-old Colorado woman, had a blood alcohol content of more than .20 when the incident happened.

Cannon Falls paramedics and police were dispatched to the river bank just behind EconoFoods at about 4:50 p.m. The woman was still in the vehicle when officers arrived; the front of the vehicle was submerged while the back tires were still on the river bank.

The woman was helped from the vehicle. She apparently suffered no injuries and refused medical treatment.

As of Friday morning, the woman was still in detox and had not yet been booked into Goodhue County Jail, Police Chief Jeff McCormick said. Police are withholding her name until charges are filed next week, McCormick said.

Goodhue County Sheriff’s Office also responded to the scene.
