10 days out

10 days out for May 23-June 3, 2012

Spotlight: The opening reception for the exhibit “Passing Views: Paintings by Francene Christianson” will be 2 to 5 p.m. Saturday June 2 at Abode Gallery in Stockholm. Items will be on display through June 30.

Sue Canterbury, associate curator of paintings at the Minneapolis Institute of Art, said Christianson's work is "old photos remade into new art are like memories retold by a crafty storyteller."

Some of these are autobiographical from Christianson's childhood while others are from her current life and travels.

"I like to take lots of photographs," Christianson said. "Whether I am traveling or around home, I am constantly shooting pictures. Back at my studio, I use the pictures for the setting of my paintings but more importantly add my feelings as I paint. I want to capture moments in my life and travels through landscapes and portraits."
