Amateur Baseball: Bombers fall twice on Saturday

Bay City dropped a pair of games Saturday with a 10-4 loss to Ellsworth and a 2-0 loss to New Richmond.

Bay City dropped a pair of games Saturday with a 10-4 loss to Ellsworth and a 2-0 loss to New Richmond.

The Bombers played both games on the road and struggled to find offense. Bay City tallied six hits against Ellsworth and just four against New Richmond.

Cole Kuesel hit a home run and drove in two runs against Ellsworth after the Bombers fell behind 7-0 in the first inning. Henry Jaeger went 1-for-2 and Bump Ulvenes went 2-for-4 with a run.

New Richmond and the Bombers (4-4, 1-2 SCVBL) locked into a pitcher’s duel that New Richmond won with a walk-off two-run homer from Dan Leavens on a full count and two outs.

New Richmond had seven hits in the game and Josh Leavens got the win with four innings of work. Josh Leavens gave up one hit, walked two and struck out seven.

Kuesel pitched 8 2/3 innings for Bay City and had a shutout going until the home run in the bottom of the ninth. Kuesel struck out nine and walked five in the loss.

The Bombers face Plum City Saturday at the Plum City Memorial tournament at 12:30 p.m.
