Baseball: Lake City falls to La Crescent

Lake City scored three unearned runs in the fourth inning to take a 3-1 lead against La Crescent but couldn’t hold on in a 5-3 loss Friday in La Crescent.

The Lancers scored three runs in the bottom of the sixth inning to take back the lead for good. Eric Veglahn threw a complete game for La Crescent, giving up four hits and three walks to go along with 12 strikeouts.

“We struggled (against Veglahn), especially early in the game,” Lake City head coach Perry Iberg said.

Sophomore Reid Lundell threw all six innings for the Tigers, allowing four earned runs on eight hits and one walk. He struck out one. Junior Dylan Simonic went 1-for-3 with two RBI to lead Lake City (12-5, 10-2 HVL) while sophomore Elliot Cox and junior Ben Schramski each finished 1-for-2 with a run scored. The Tigers made five errors in the loss.

University of Minnesota recruit Troy Traxler was 1-for-4 with two RBI for the Lancers.

Lake City hosts the Lake City Invitational today and will play its first game against Mabel-Canton.
